We did the 15-hour drive to Southern California in We did the 15-hour drive to Southern California in one day - just to prove my husband wrong.

My daughter was fast asleep when we pulled into the driveway just before 12 am. I was relieved, and exhausted.

My body stiff peeling myself out of the car.

But this isn’t a story about triumph.

It’s a story about noticing the default setting we run on when no one is watching.

My daughters? And certainly my onw:

Prove.

Compete and win.

Ignore my body.

Ignore the cost.

But what I’ve learned, especially over the last few years, is this:

You can arrive at your destination with you being totally out of alignment (and it takes days to recover).

You can win and still feel like you lost.

There’s a difference between pushing through and being pulled forward.

One drains.

One energizes.

So while I’m still recovering from that trip, I asked myself - what did we win by proving that we can do it?

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do … is taking the foot off the gas and take in the journey.
